Kiss Me By The Jukebox – Neon, a Ribbon, and One Shared Soda v.25
Story Behind the Song · vol.25, Track 9 of 13
▶ The player starts right at this track (30:00). Let it keep rolling for the whole album.
The album recovers the way that decade always recovered: by putting a coin in the jukebox. Neon sign outside, ribbon in her hair, springtime dancing around two people who met after school and cannot think of anywhere better to be.
One soda, two small straws, laughing without any pause — the lyric is unembarrassed about how small its pleasures are, and the harmonies treat them as enormous. Every little step we took felt like pages from a book, the pre-chorus says, which is exactly how it feels at that age, when a walk down a street seems like something being written down.
Spin me slow and don't say goodbye. Years may come and years may go, the bridge admits, but songs will never lose their glow — a line this channel could put on its front door.
Kiss me by the jukebox light,
Hold me close the whole long night.
Spin me slow and don't say goodbye,
Love can teach our hearts to fly.
